Dr. Ivan Oelrich,
Non-Resident Senior Fellow, Council on Strategic Risks
Dr. Ivan Oelrich is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow with the Council on Strategic Risks. He was formerly vice president of the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) directing its Strategic Security Program, and its acting president. His research career has included the nuclear fuel cycle, the missions and roles of nuclear weapons, and the evaluation of research and development programs aimed at developing new conventional military capability.
Oelrich has held senior research positions at the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), the Advanced Systems and Concepts Office of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment (OTA). He was a fellow at the Center for Science and International Affairs, Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; conducted research in nuclear physics and taught in the Physics Department of the Technical University of Munich in Germany; and was a pre-doctoral Research Associate at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He has held adjunct or visiting professor positions at Princeton University, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Hamburg, and the George Washington University, teaching on arms control and the technology supporting conventional weapons and weapons of mass destruction. Dr. Oelrich received his BS from the University of Chicago and a PhD from Princeton University, both in chemistry.
